Every year, World Rivers Day serves as a reminder of the essential role our rivers play in maintaining the balance of ecosystems.

Fish in Wallonia are directly affected by the condition of our rivers. Pollution, dams, climate change, biodiversity loss... Despite some improvements, there is still a long way to go to ensure a bright future for these fragile environments. The quality and connectivity of rivers remain crucial issues, especially for migratory species.

To raise awareness among young and old alike, our scientific guide, equipped with a mobile observation table, invites you to the “Biodiversity” room of the Aquarium.

On the program:

• Observation of a pike's head and discovery of its impressive 700 teeth.
• Zoom in on fish scales and their growth rings, similar to tree rings.
• Recognition of fish in our regions: learn to identify them and understand their needs.
• Discovering the zoning of a river, a key concept for understanding the distribution of species according to their habitat conditions.
• And of course, a question and answer session to answer all your questions: what threats are facing our fish? How can we help protect aquatic environments?

Suitable for ages 5 and up, this fun and educational activity is open to everyone. With family, friends, or on your own, come explore the fascinating world of our rivers and rediscover the often unsuspected richness of our local aquatic heritage.

This activity takes place continuously in the Aquarium’s exhibits and does not require a reservation.
