The Aquarium-Muséum is the centre of excellence for animal biodiversity in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation and the only scientific culture site dedicated to both the aquatic world and the heritage of the natural sciences. As part of the University of Liège, the Aquarium-Muséum carries out museum management duties, provides services to the public, assists teaching, provides expertise and disseminates scientific culture and knowledge.

Sciences

Preserving, managing, studying and promoting heritage and scientific collections are the main missions of our institution. Living specimens require constant attention and population management. The 25,000 naturalised specimens are inventoried, classified and digitised. Both the Aquarium and the Museum and their infrastructures are also an ideal support for numerous Belgian and foreign researchers.

Education

The Aquarium-Muséum is a teaching, learning and observation tool in the Life Sciences for nursery, primary, secondary, higher and specialist education. Hundreds of teachers, professors and educators trust us to enrich their lessons and subjects through guided tours, courses and workshops. 30% of our visitors are school groups. Numerous university students in science, medicine, veterinary medicine, oceanology, etc. use the institution for their studies.

Knowledge

Disseminating knowledge, promoting scientific culture, showcasing our living and naturalised collections in our permanent and temporary exhibitions, providing our visitors with a better understanding of aquatic environments and the richness of the animal world, transmitting the results of scientific research and making them accessible to as many people as possible... these are just some of the services we provide to the general public.
