Ocean Month
The Aquarium-Museum team is dedicating several weeks to exploring the marine world through Ocean Month, a programme of events focused on discovery, raising awareness and protecting marine biodiversity.
To wrap up Ocean Month 2026, the Aquarium-Muséum Universitaire de Liège invites you to an evening dedicated to the ocean, blending scientific discovery with wonder. Professor Thierry Jauniaux’s lecture will be followed by a screening of the documentary *Ocean with David Attenborough*, offering an immersive journey into the marine world and the challenges of protecting it.
The evening will begin with a lecture by Dr. Thierry Jauniaux: "Suspicious Deaths at Sea: What Dolphins Reveal About Our Oceans"
Through the study of strandings and the causes of mortality among marine mammals, this lecture will offer scientific insight into the health of the oceans and the consequences of human activities on marine ecosystems.
The evening will continue with a screening of the documentary *Ocean with David Attenborough*. This filminvites the audience to explore one of the most essential and fascinating environments on our planet: the ocean. Through David Attenborough’s experience and perspective, this film traces the major discoveries that have profoundly transformed our understanding of the marine world.
From coral reefs to kelp forests, all the way to the still-unknown depths, spectacular images reveal the richness and diversity of marine ecosystems, as well as their fundamental role in the Earth’s balance.
The documentary also highlights the growing pressures on the oceans, particularly destructive fishing and coral bleaching. It thus offers an essential reflection on the impact of human activities and the need to preserve these fragile environments.
But beyond this assessment, the film carries a message firmly focused on the future. Through concrete and inspiring examples from around the world, it highlights the ocean’s ability to regenerate when protective measures are implemented.
Drawing on a lifetime of exploration and education, David Attenborough reminds us that we are living in a pivotal era: one of the greatest oceanographic discoveries, but also one of decisive choices for the future of life. Restoring marine life on a large scale is still possible—provided we act now.
