Ocean Month
The Aquarium-Museum team is dedicating several weeks to exploring the marine world through Ocean Month, a programme of events focused on discovery, raising awareness and protecting marine biodiversity.
The team at the University of Liège Aquarium-Museum is proud to welcome the International Ocean Film Tour, the leading international tour dedicated to the best documentary films about the marine world. This evening marks the official opening of Ocean Month 2026, an entire month dedicated to discovering, raising awareness, and protecting marine biodiversity.
Volume 12 of the International Ocean Film Tour offers an international selection of five award-winning short and medium-length films. These films take us to the four corners of the globe, from the legendary waves of Pipeline in Hawaii to endangered coral reefs, to meet scientists, underwater photographers, and women and men who live in close connection with the ocean.
The audience will follow a Swiss family who have been living at sea for over 25 years, three Scottish brothers engaged in an epic Pacific crossing by rowing boat, and Terry Kennedy and his unique friendship with Willy, a manta ray. Part human adventure, part celebration of life, this two-hour program highlights the fragile beauty of the oceans and the urgent challenges of preserving them.
Among the highlights is a portrait of Christa Funk, a professional surf photographer, who offers a sensitive look at the legendary Pipeline spot, which she considers both her workplace and her sanctuary. It is a tribute to passion, perseverance, and a deep respect for the ocean.
By hosting this event, the Aquarium-Museum is continuing its mission to raise awareness through emotion and science. The International Ocean Film Tour collaborates with international conservation organizations such as Sea Shepherd, Sharkproject, OceanCare, and Surfrider Foundation, partners committed to protecting aquatic biodiversity.
This evening is fully in line with our approach: to educate, inspire, and mobilize.
