The Aquarium-Museum of the University of Liège is delighted to welcome naturalist biologist Laurent Ballesta (Honorary Doctorate from the University of Liège in 2016). In "Loin du Ciel" (Far from the Sky), Laurent Ballesta reveals images of his discoveries made over the last 10 years.

In particular, we discover the mysterious rings of the Cap Corse and Agriate Marine Nature Park, enigmatic formations located 120 meters below the surface, whose secret was only revealed after many years of research.

Laurent also takes us to meet the horseshoe crabs of the Philippines, prehistoric creatures that are now essential to modern medicine, then to the Tubbataha Natural Park in the Sulu Sea, before diving into Antarctica, an ice desert that is home to oases of life and a biodiversity as unexpected as it is difficult to access.

A lecture that pays tribute to the wildlife of the oceans, a world that fascinates us as much as it eludes us...

Laurent Ballesta, a scientist, a diver, a photographer...

Laurent Ballesta is a French photographer from Montpellier, who trained as a marine biologist. He is the author of 13 books of underwater photography. He publishes portfolios in numerous French and international magazines. He has been a photographer for National Geographic Magazine since 2011. Since 2000, he has been co-director of Andromède Océanologie (study, restoration and enhancement of marine ecosystems).

A three-time winner of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year, awarded by the National Museum in London, he is the first Frenchman to receive the Grand Prix in any category in 2021. Through his images, Laurent illustrates the underwater world with a scientific and artistic eye.
