Common Collections

A digital portal at your fingertips

Since June 2025, the Aquarium-Muséum universitaire de Liège has been part of Common Collections, a digital portal shared by sixteen cultural institutions in Wallonia, initiated by the Province of Liège. A virtual showcase for real collections - sometimes rarely exhibited - now accessible to everyone, everywhere, all the time.

The commoncollections.be website already brings together over 75,000 objects, documents, books, photos and audiovisual archives from museums of all kinds (scientific, artistic, ethnographic, industrial, etc.). An intuitive search engine lets you dive into the collections of a specific museum, or browse by cross-cutting theme, historical period, location or type of object.

Why take part in this project?

Because our heritage deserves to be seen and shared. It's important to bring our collections to life, so that they don't get forgotten in the storerooms. Certain items can be viewed and consulted remotely, whether you're a researcher, an enthusiast or simply curious.

The project is also a powerful lever for professional development. Thanks to the common tool made available by the Province of Liège, we benefit from a complete software package to manage our collections: inventories, condition reports, loans, restorations..

Finally, Common Collections embodies a true network approach. By pooling their human, technical and financial resources, Walloon museums are working together to promote a rich, diverse and often complementary heritage. A valuable collaboration at a time of shrinking resources and ever-expanding missions.
